Darcy Granove was the Landscape Designer for this project while employed at McGowan Russell Group (2009-2010)
An existing conditions assessment was performed for the West End Business Improvement Zone which included a thorough evaluation and inventory of existing amenities and infrastructure in a report. Followed by the development of design strategies for the ‘International Village’ on Ellice and Sargent Avenues, between Arlington and Balmoral Streets . A number of initiatives were identified including design enhancement to the urban streetscape, business improvements, and several design features.
The International Village Gateway Feature located on Ellice Avenue between Spence and Balmoral Streets was the first of the initiatives completed. It features colourful unit pavers, flags with "welcome" in 16 different languages, and large ship mast flags in the centre median with landscaping. Situated directly across for the University of Winnipeg campus, this key location announces a unique urban destination full of multicultural businesses.
